Watched an episode of Moulmein High today. It is so not representive of a real school. They have like what... 8 teachers on staff? And their principal wears skirts that are too short! This series was clearly not made in the noughties, because when the Literature teacher wanted to protest the dropping of the subject, the principal was all "Oh no, we have to protect the ranking of our school, who cares about your silly old subject? It's all about getting students to get good grades! You're a good teacher but your students hate Literature anyway, PWNT!" Either that or the producers of the show decided: "Oh man, these education officer consultants are so not on! Student centeredness? Teaching less, learning more? That's crap television. We're so not doing things their way."
Well, not in those words exactly, but you get the idea. I thought school was about instilling a love for learning? I thought students were supposed to be inspired to learn on their own? Moulmein High is obviously still coasting on a teacher-centered environment.
Also, I have to point out that Literature =/= Shakespeare, even though the Bard is truly the MAN when it comes to poetic language and frightfully insightful imagery. It's canonical, yes, but Literature encompasses so much more. Shakespeare's only the grand-daddy in a delightfully large family of literary works.
Ridiculous! Preposterous! Unbelievable! And other words that I can't think of right now. =)
