This is FYI, if you're thinking of shipping things to Singapore via Vpost.
Recently I ordered some sale items from Victoria's Secret. (They make clothes too, you know.) The total cost of my items came to USD169.11, after taxes.
Now take a look at how much it costs to ship through Vpost.
Bear in mind also that I used the UOB 12% off promotion. Do the conversion yourself.
Yes. Vpost DOES ship at a fraction of the usual shipping charges. Whether or not it's proper is another matter. It all depends on who's doing the shipping, I suppose.
My advice? If you're buying from big, established stores like Amazon, go for their international shipping. It's more worth it. Plus, they provide shipping charges for you upfront - Vpost's listed prices may be subject to change, and you can't anticipate how much it'll cost until the items are already shipped to the Vpost USA shipping address.
Vpost IS useful if you're shipping things from all over USA, because they would be able to consolidate your packages and you'll only have to pay a single base charge, as compared to having say 5 different merchants ship to you in Singapore (which would be far more expensive than local addresses). The sum of the parts would be greater than the whole. Plus, some retailers DO NOT ship to Singapore.
Nonetheless, I think I shall start having my things shipped directly to Singapore. It seems to be cheaper AND it will save all that time of it having to travel around USA before coming to its final destination.
