I'm not sure how to feel about this, but people hate admitting to fault. Whenever something goes wrong and even when it's clearly the person's mistake, people still attempt to shift blame - he/she/it shouldn't have been... [insert excuse].
I'll give you an example: Guy is caught staring at a woman.
Guy: She shouldn't have been wearing such a low-cut top!
Granted, it's not the best example because she shouldn't have been wearing a low cut top, but why do we feel the need to explain our misdeeds more than the need to repent for it?
I must say that repentance is one of the hardest things to master in our society these days what with the entitlement and rights people feel they deserve. (Entitlement's another topic I would like to bitch about another day.)
One of the most shocking (still is) cases of blame I've ever heard about is of course people suing Macdonald's for causing obesity. I know there's quite a bit more behind it in terms of advertising and false representation, but people! What you eat is a choice you make, and when YOU decide to do something, YOU shouldn't blame others for your choice. I personally hate it when people blame others for the actions that they themselves take.
I understand. I know how hard it is to say: "I made a mistake." The bigger and more powerful you are, the harder it is to humble yourself. The bigger your screw-up, the harder it is to come back from it, so you try to diffuse the guilt among those involved.
I don't expect people to admit their mistakes. I just wish they would because it's the right thing to do, though I'm a bit stymied when it comes to WWJD, because... What mistakes did He ever make?
