I learnt a new word today. It's a portmanteau of "slacker" and "activism". And boy, is it true of so many people on social media.
I want to ask "what's the point" when people change their profile or background picture for the latest cause. Does it raise awareness? Does it create a call for action?
I don't get it. I suppose if it makes people happy, they should do it by all means. But I find it rather worthless and pointless nonetheless. As one website I read said about it, it's not like people are unaware of breast cancer or child abuse. Raising awareness for the problem doesn't have great, long-lasting effects.
